The songs are intense but not overly raucous.  The kind of sound that immediately beckons, and then turns on the listener with some wonderful dark imagery.  Darkness in the lyrics and the music.  [Aiding & Abetting]

Electric piano dances underneath intelligent vocal lines and tight drum tracks draw a listener to soak into the songs ... beautifully orchestrated harmonies and sophisticated arrangements ... spanning the gap between lounge music and alternative rock. [Rockpile]

LYRICS

SPEED OF LOVE

Invitation and you just can’t say no,
Two of us in this live volcano,
You and me we can face this angry crowd.
All the calls we won’t be returning,
When we leave we will leave it burning,
On the wings of a kiss forever now.
It’s higher in the night,
Was blind but now has flight,
You and me, we’ll smile looking down.

[Chorus] The speed of love we’ll drive and leave this race behind,
And overnight we’ll drive the speed of love.

Destination to an unknown region,
Other side of the Christmas season,
You’re the ears, I’m the eyes without a mouth.
Keep it focused on the solar palace,
Executed with grace and balance,
through the heart of a midtown traffic jam.
And years from now they’ll find our skeletons entwined,
‘Til then we’ll keep this car in drive.

[Chorus]

ANGEL

She was like a circle, turning in the light,
Pulling to the center, painless oversight.
Even when I’m ready, let’s me have my cake.
She says, “oh under one condition, I’m invited to the wake.”
She can solve the problem of the time to kill,
“Oh yeah now there’s another thing; you forgot to sign your will.”

[Chorus] Well she’s an angel, she’s an angel, she’s an angel.
The way she gives a wink and nod, the way she wants to be with God.

Likes to see the public scraping off her shoe,
Looks into your eyes, says I’m dying to,
Putting on the war paints, all part of the plan,
She says, “I offer a solution without the middle man.”
I reflect the culture, it’s just a passing fad.
Oh yeah, I gave the cops your number, I hope you won’t be mad.”

[Chorus]

She’ll take you home on a heavenly night
but she won’t get her wings ‘cause she’s already high…

Well she’s an angel, she’s an angel, she’s angel
(I don’t know why I love her like I do)
She’s an angel, she’s and angel, she’s an angel.
(and all the changes you put me through)
The way she gives a wink and nod, the way she wants to be with God,
The way she acts like it’s the end, the way she wants to be my friend,
The way she wants to be my friend.

SINCE YOU QUIT DRINKING

This neighborhood has lost its shine
And I don’t find it charming anymore
It’s strange appeal no longer feels…
All those evenings, you know,
Don’t seem the same since you quit drinking.

Your drunken boat is back on course.
Now you won’t crash on foreign rocky shores.
The sirens call, you will not fall.
Stormy weather, you know,
Won’t seem the same when you’re not sinking.

I shuffle through this downtown crowd
And I don’t think it’s funny anymore.
These eastside streets are incomplete.
Early morning, you’ll be returning from your worst dream
Some things have changed since you were sleeping.

STONE BY STONE

And I remember when… the future now on sale at Sears.
Sent to bed at ten, the devil sings the theme from Cheers.
It's okay even if I feel that way cause
I'm all right, survived another Sunday night.

[Chorus] Stone by stone every man must work alone
Up they stack, solid stone could break a man's back.

I'm acting out the dream so hand me down a part to play
The credits on the screen… my idol's feet are made of clay.
Don't it seem it's all a portrait of the Scream and
All along...take it back the size is wrong.

[Chorus]

Great escape, planet of the naked ape and
on my way, forget what the boss man say.
I hear it on the news, the body count's like counting sheep
And when the Yankees lose, I'll build a wall that they can't leap.

[Chorus]

LOOKING FOR PALESTINE

There’s a temple in my head that I just can’t find and it’s been keeping me up at night, looking for Palestine.

Back when I was young I felt as one inside my form.
The afterglow inside… and satisfied with being born.

[Chorus] I can on stand on holy ground and when I’m looking down
I’m wondering if it’s mine, looking for Palestine.

And from a child’s face we fall from grace with every year,
A solitary cell, don’t try to yell ‘cause he won’t hear.

[Chorus]
It’s a broken promised land across the burning sand
And it’s been keeping me up at night, looking for Palestine.
I can on stand on holy ground and when I’m looking down
I’m wondering if it’s mine, looking for Palestine.

That lonely desert bloom that fades in my mind…

That lonely desert bloom that lights in my head,
The last crusade will fade, we’re leaving tonight, tonight.

[Chorus]
It’s a broken promised land across the burning sand
And it’s been keeping me up at night, looking for Palestine.
There’s a temple in my head that I just can’t find
and it’s been keeping me up at night, looking for Palestine
it’s been keeping me up at night, looking for Palestine

MAN INSIDE

Pictures of true crime taped in a notebook, high on homicide
He’s a detective out on assignment, the lower eastern side
And he wonders why he chose the darker side
The job that makes him weary, but still it’s just a theory,
Who calculates the life denied? The man inside.

Positive I.D.s, all of the O.D.s, they just lost their lease.
There is a suspect, he is the landlord who makes the rent increase.
And he wonders why that love has been denied.
Good chance to make some money, it makes the lines go blurry
And who is it that he confides? The man inside.
(Pay no attention to the man inside)

Two kids for hire forcing the needle of the lethal dose.
Fits like a puzzle, thinks the detective, who brings his suspects close.
And they wonder why the love has been denied.
Light from a cage escaping, the game the beast in craving.
The only law that he abides.

When it’s all over, there’s no conviction the streetlights icy glow.
One gets his pension, one gets refinanced the sidewalk’s dirty snow.
And in the end they’ll say they wish that they could stay.
That scattered feeling ceases, they’ll separate the pieces,
The only one they can’t divide? The man inside.
(Pay no attention to the man inside)
The man inside.

DOCTOR

After all that you’ve been through has left you with a vacant stare
And after all you’ve tried to be, well let me show you that I care.
When your face is twisted up and all is silent in your head,
Now is time for giving up, won’t you let me make your bed.

[Chorus]  I wanna be your doctor, your appointment everyday
I wanna be your doctor, the ones you miss you’ll have to pay

Verse
I will wake you up at one, and I will wake you up at five and
I will fill your empty head, I will make you feel alive.
When you have to take your pill, I will take you when it’s time
Cause your prescription I will fill, let me know that you are mine.

[Chorus]

I'M YOUR SUPERMAN

It takes a holy man to make it on the street,
a superhero that can rise above the heat,
the downtown train is a signal and it's always flashing yellow.
Another round to put the metal to the test,
it's underground because you feel it in the chest,
the uptown train is the one that made the farmer's wife a widow.

[Chorus] Cause I'm the superman and you don't understand,
it kept me going I was dreaming of the Motherland.
I did the time and I was paying for the toll,
To be released but now I'm always on parole.

They set it up so that you have to take your licks,
It's hard to hide because it's built into the bricks.
The FDR holds out on a promise to deliver.
The sound you hear is just the breaking of the will
that starts to crumble with the turning of the drill.
The West Side Drive leads the Million Man March into the river.

[Chorus] Cause I'm the superman and you don't understand,
it kept me going I was dreaming of the Motherland.
My heart is thirsty and I'm never giving up
I see you coming and I'm holding out my cup.

They're paying cash to see the burning of the cross
atop a building that was counted as a loss.
The landlord winks, stretching out the links and pulling on the chain.
Is it a bird is it a plane.

[Chorus]

THE SHOOTING STAR

The aliens will welcome us in outer space
So take that non-believing grin right off your face.
And hide the things that you can’t sell, leave behind your human shell
Meet me on the other side, behind the shooting star

The invitation says we should be dressed in black.
So tell your parents that we won’t be coming back.
When the star wars come we can use the force
Cause it’s just to the left of the southern cross,
Where you can find a place to hide behind the shooting star.

And if you don’t wanna go you can sing do-re-me-Doe
Cause we’ll be leaving and give no reason.

It’s a silent night as we go through the clouds,
And we’ll be wearing sneakers when we touch the ground,
But oh, it won’t be the end when you take the hand of a friend
Cause there’s no devil on the second level.
So take a bet on a solid tip, it’s all aboard this rocket ship,
You might as well, you’ve come this far
Behind the shooting star.

INDIANA

Lost some feathers when I tried to fly away.
Got so excited by the yippi-i-o-ti-ay.
I’m going back to a teepee in the snow
So I can know what I used to know.
Don’t need protection, I wear it on my skin,
String the bow, direction of the wind.
No broken arrow, I don’t need a gun.
Get up on my pony and ride into the sun.

Chorus
To Indiana. To Indiana. To Indiana.
Yippi-i-o-ti-ay.

I can’t contain my hunger for the light.
I had a vision, a dream of second sight.
About the dark in a never ending freeze,
Blown away by a never ending breeze.
I am the hunter, the eagle is my guide
Across the water, the elders at my side.
I have a torch, and burning in my home,
Eternal spirit and I’ll never be alone

Chorus
In Indiana. In Indiana. In Indiana.
Yippi-i-o-ti-ay.

BEEKEEPER

How to be a beekeeper isn’t always sweet.
Working under cover summer’s heat.
Always to be side-stepping, not to hurt the wings.
Gentle action is the satisfaction that it brings.

And deep in the hive, just to keep her alive.
All alone on her throne.

You must be a light sleeper, hear the steady hum.
Have a million bees turn into one.

And deep in the hive, just to keep her alive.
All alone on her throne.

How to be a beekeeper, swarming from the tree.
Just to have a spoonful for my tea.
